How do I use the automated shift assistant?

The automated shift assistant (ASA) enables automated shifting actions without driver input.
Two transmission modes are available for gear selection:

  • Manual mode "M": Shifting by actuating the gearshift lever.
  • Automated mode "D": Automated gear selection taking into account the current riding situation. In automated mode, gear changes are triggered depending on the riding mode, rotational speed, throttle control and lean angle.

The ASA button on the handlebars can be used to easily switch between the different gear change modes (automatic / manual) – even while riding!

In the basic setting / standard setting, when you restart the bike, the manual shift mode "M" is active.

Regardless of the selected transmission mode, driving off and stopping is also controlled via the ASA.
In this video, you can see how the automated shift assistant works. The rider benefits from perfectly executed gear changes with a smooth interruption in traction.

Why not try out the automatic gearshift yourself – you'll be amazed! It's best to contact your BMW Motorrad retailer directly and ask for a test ride.
