For the S 1000 RR (from model year 2023), the red range up to 9,000 rpm is hatched in the revolution counter. Why is this so and what does it mean?

This indicator was introduced to make the running-in of the new motorcycle – the first 1,000 km – as gentle as possible on the engine. The red shaded area shows in which rotational speed range, for example up to 9,000 rpm, the engine should only be used. This display also appears when the engine is still cold and should not be revved up too high yet. If you have been riding the motorcycle for a while and the engine warms up, the red zone shifts accordingly.
